This is Jessica. You wonder why the name "Jessica?" because I named her after a young friend that graduated a year after I did. Anyway, I got a special request to make another one. The second "Jessica" went the way of Etsy, but this friend of mine liked her so much, she's never forgotten her, so I'm in the process of making a third "Jessica."

My little guys are here from Austin staying with their father. I'm hoping to get a few days with them while they're in El Paso. My daughter is having "withdrawal" symptoms and missing them. I told her she'd get over it...if she doesn't, something's wrong with that girl!!!! As much as I love my youngest, when his father took him for a month in the summer, I was counting the days...before he left that is. I guess I'm just a terrible mother, but from what I've been told, there's a lot of us out there!!

Did some stuff in the studio yesterday. Haven't taken pics yet, but I'm working on more Muerto art...having a ball! Haven't added anything new to my Etsy shop; I'm waiting till I get lots of Halloweenee stuff and Muerto stuff done till I post. Also, I've been selling right out of my studio, so that also limits what I post on Etsy...not going to complian...no siree bob!

Well, today is Monday, so that means "Grocery Day with Mom." Last week she wanted to go to Wal-Mart....aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!! I have to have prior notice before I go there...need to get myself psyched for it....know what I mean??? She had no real list, so we went down every aisle....e-v-e-r-y f-r-i-g-g-i-n a-i-s-l-e!!!!!!!! Of course, this is right after school is out and every beaner in the world and thier kids, my mother, son and I included, were shopping!!! Valium please!!! OMG, was I exhausted when we returned home...she asked me why I was in such a big rush to get home...told her I had fudgesicles that needed freezing, again! So can't wait to see what she has in store for me again...hoping it's just a regular grocery store, like the one just a couple of miles away from her house....I heart Albertsons!!!

Last Wed. was just as traumatic. We went to the Ft. Bliss cemetery to put flowers on my Dad's grave...I had forgotten it would have been their 65th anniversary, so I had to battle the construction to the cemetery which was down to one lane and of course there are those who think they're so entitled and more important that those of us who wait our turn in line...almost was hit by some "witch" that thought she had the right to enter in front of me....my mother told me I should have hit her....she was driving a Kia and my mother has a tank by Buick! We went to the cemetery, where I also purchased some flowers for my ex father-in-law who is buried just on the other side of my Pop. Had help my son locate his Pappy's grave since he was just wandering around the area. We found it and he put the flowers down and he began to cry...he misses his Pap!

Ok, so after that, I asked her if she wanted to return to our side of town but she decided she wanted to go to the mall on the eastside of town, since we were pretty close. Sooo, off to the mall...I hate the mall!!! She loves J.C. Penny's and that's the only one in town and she was looking for specific things. I think she tried everything in the petite section and then some. Then after that, we had to go to the tile guy to see samples....how do you match up a floor with bright yellow tiled walls!!! We'll find out!!!

Well, I've rambled enough about my life with Mom...God, I love her! Just was told by my son that it's almost 9:30 and I need to get ready to go to my Mom's, so have a great Monday y'all and peace out.

I love love love the doll. I too can hardly wait to see the spooky ookies. Now as for your Mom...I really don't see that she is the problem, LOL. I hate shopping anywhere since school is out. And I would like to join the terrible mom's assoc. with you. I could hardly wait until camp or overnites or when Shel stayed with my Mom. Now like the bad penny she is...she's comin back. Have a shopping good day, LEEEEEENDA

Love the 3rd Jessica! Selling out of your studio? doesn't get any better than that, right?! OMG on Wal-Mart!! That is sheer torture right there!! I'm not sure if I could enter that place even for my mom!! It's insanity waiting to happen!! Hope this shopping adventure was a little more tame and only to the grocery store which is bad enough!!

Jessica is awesomely cool!

Regarding the prepping of the bag of gourds you found, are they cleaned or still moldy/dirty?

Georgina, gourds look very much like this when growing on the vine. As they dry they get moldy, it's part of the hardening off process. The gourds you describe are coyote or buffalo gourds - great for doll heads and ornies, you are lucky to be near this free bounty! They are thin shelled though so extra care must be taken not to crush them. Use a sponge with a scrubby on one side and make a weak solution of warm water & bleach. Dampen the gourd with the sponge dipped in the water, you may see the mold lighten or you may not until you use the scrubby side, but be gentle! When done you should have a gourd a lovely shade of buckskin. Dry with a soft cloth or paper towel and you are done!
