Having Fun
Wow, 2 posts in one day...but just had to show you what I've been doing today. I've been working with this new clay, Plus Clay by Activa. I'm using it for one of my doll swaps and it's perfect for the effect I wanted to achieve....UGLY!!! Well, the instructions say that you can also throw with it, so since I do have a wheel, I decided to try it out. This clay is not at all easy to throw unless one is a master thrower, then they can throw with just about anything, but I'm not! Of course I'm way out of practice, it's been four years since I've thrown and the back just isn't that used to being slumped over, explains why my friend went from throwing to metals, now she makes beautiful silver jewelry...she was spending too much money on her orthopod.
Anywho, I tried my hand, hahaha, no pun intended, and threw my little heart out and what did I get, a leetle wonky pot...very wonky. It was hard centering it since I must have been throwing with about 1/4 lb. of clay. The least I've ever thrown is 3lbs., but that was then, this is now. The reason for such a small amount of clay is $7.99 (+4.25% tax)/2.2lbs. worth of reasons. It's friggin' expensive. So I think I'll just stick to my paper and polymer clay and once in while, play with real clay, which I've got about 100lbs. in my studio, and just practice my throwing. Maybe I can talk some really nice person who has a kiln in the area to fire my work once I'm happy with it. Peace out.

That bowl looks darn good. How neat that you have done this type of work before because it is very relaxing so they say. I've always wanted to "throw" as you say and I wanted my own Kiln and maybe one day I will. You should be proud of yourself, you are very artistic in so many ways. Viva Georgina! Have a great week.
well your wonky bowl looks mighty fine to me!!! how fun! i've never done this and would love to try one day:):) xox...jenn
Haven't thrown in years, so your results look GREAT to me! I know I don't have the hand strength anymore though I would love to give it a try. (once!)
Hey, sometimes you just have to do something different, and then know you're content with what you're doing. I love your things!
Now do what you have to do to finish the *wonky bowl* and knock us dead with the results!
XXOO!!!
Anne
Loved reading this post. I have only tried this technique on my daughters toy one with little success. You certainly impressed me with your attemp after four years. I say you did fantastically!
Thanks all for your comments. Well, the wonky bowl went right back into the clay bag...terrible clay! Yes, Gloria, throwing is very relaxing until you get frustrated for the umpteenth time and end up throwing your stuff at the wall. You should have seen the wall and ceiling at school...full of failed work!!! LOL Anyway, I do need to get back into it...I do love it and it was my discipline for my art degree.
Sorry Anne, no knocking anyone down with a feather...the bowl was just a trial to see if I still had it in me. They say once you've learned to centre, it's like riding a bike, you never forget...they were right, but it's a skill and as any skill, one has to keep it up...I snoozed a little too long!!!
Nice bowl!! Great job! I hear is very theraputic. I think I spelled that wrong, oh well.
Georgine que tal! Preciosa! So nice to hear from you. Well about my cat, I will stay calm about this. Just the thought of it frightens me. I remember when he lived in PR which is where he's from. He was soo adorable!! I fell in love the first time I laid my eyes on him. He so small and poofy a white cloud with a blue and yellow eyes. He was handed to me in a brown box at 6am while I was still sleeping. A birthday gift!! And when I heard him meow I thought I was dreaming. And I woke up and saw his big eyes and I fell in love with him, he so cute!
Thank you so much for la llorona I love that song. And when I move I will send you my address.
Para ti siempre un abrazo y besos!!
Mua Mua!!
It looks as perfect as a bowl should be. I remember using clay before and failed miserably at making something distinguishable. Not the least bit happy about it, especially coz I was trying to cheer myself up after spending half my check on my dep meds at www.OrderDrugs.ca;I took it off the table, threw it on a piece of wood and started sculpting like crazy. And voila! I I created the surreal bonsai I now for my coffeetable center piece.
How about dig a raku fire pit? Oh I fantasize about that myself! I haven't thrown in years...since college...your bowl is great!
Have fun Georgina!!
OOh I used to love pottery at school, not done it since though!!
Thanks for visiting my blog today, glad you like the painting ;)
